Tenterden is a quaint little town with a beautiful tree-lined high street made up of interesting ornate buildings and independent shops. A town with a large conservation area and steeped in a rich history, it stands on the edge of the remnant forest The Weald. The town’s name is derived from the Old English “Tenet Waraden”, meaning a den or forest clearing in the forest which belonged to the men of Thanet.

Considering a renovation on this picturesque high street involves careful planning to ensure that each detail is in keeping with the rich history and traditional. Contrary to what the name suggests, our Contemporary Range sliding sash spiral balance was perfect for achieving this. Don’t be put off by the name; the Bereco Contemporary Range can still be used to achieve period charm. Where sliding sash windows are concerned it is simply a case of preference when it comes to choosing between our Contemporary sliding sash and our Traditional sliding sash. If you would like to achieve a simple, less detailed look, the pencil round mouldings of the Contemporary Range are perfect. For those looking for a more decorative, true to the original detail, look towards the ovolo mouldings of the Traditional Range.

With the expertise of Parker Joinery and the Bereco design team, each window was designed with a curved outside head facing which allows the head of the window to be straight whilst the sash perfectly follows the curvature of the external stonework arch. This detail, is popular in period properties where the internal brickwork is square in shape. This is a delicate process and involves CAD design work which our design team are extremely familiar with.

This imposing Georgian building sits proud overlooking the elegant high street and the timber sliding sash windows hold a specific grandeur which perfectly blends with the building. Each window was designed with a 16mm vertical bar with back to back spacer which marries with the glazing spacer bar. Polished chrome ironmonger, including hook lifts and fitch fasteners provide elegance whilst keeping the design simple and adding a touch of the modern.

All in all, a triumph of a renovation which towers above a historic high street. An excellent demonstration that Contemporary Range windows can add a touch of elegance to a traditional building, and a great testament to the ongoing expertise of Parker Joinery.
