To help in the fight against deforestation, we use only either FSC® 100% or 100% PEFC Origin timber in all of our wooden windows and doors. Both certifications mean that every section of timber used has full traceability back to the source.

Who are the FSC®?

Established in 1994, the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion and management of responsible forestry. It has two main functions:

  1. First and foremost it is responsible for certifying forests. FSC® ensures that the highest environmental and social standards are achieved within the forest where the wood is being harvested for use in products and services that are sold not just in the UK but all over the world.
  2. In addition to certification of the forest, FSC® also operates and manages over 32,000 chains of custody certificates in 122 countries. Chain of custody certification offers clarity and transparency and allows you to track back through the supply chain right to the forest.

Keep your eyes peeled for the FSC® logo

The FSC® tree tick logo is a promise that every company involved in the manufacture of the product uses wood from sustainable sources. This helps to protect and conserve our forests, their wildlife, and also us as people that both use and work in them. You’ll find the FSC® logo on an array of products around the world.

There are three types of FSC® labels that you will see on any FSC® products you buy. This includes:

  • FSC® 100% is where all timber making up the product has come from an FSC® certified forest.
  • FSC® Mix contains a minimum of 70% FSC® certified wood.
  • FSC® Recycled is made from a minimum of 70%  reclaimed material.

What is PEFC?

PEFC, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, is a leading global alliance of national forest certification systems that was established in 1999. As an international non-profit, non-governmental organization, they are dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification.

They endorse national forest certification systems that have been developed through multi-stakeholder processes and tailored to local priorities and conditions. They work through national forest certification systems, enabling countries to tailor their sustainable forest management requirements to their specific forest ecosystems, the legal and administrative framework, the socio-cultural context and other relevant factors.

With over 280 million hectares of PEFC-certified forest, they are the largest forest certification system in the world.

The PEFC logo and types of Certification

The PEFC logo and labels are globally trusted trademarks. The PEFC ‘green trees’ logo is your assurance that wood-based products come from sustainable sources.

The label assists businesses, consumers, forest owners and managers, and other stakeholders to identify and promote merchandise and goods from forests that are managed responsibly.

There are three types of PEFC Certification This includes:

  • 100% PEFC Origin where all the timber used is sourced directly from PEFC-certified forests
  • PEFC Certified where at least 70% of the included forest and tree-based material is PEFC certified.
  • PEFC Recycled where the product includes only recycled forest and tree-based material

Which timber will be used on my order?

To maintain our certifications, we utilise the physical separation method, and each order will be manufactured from either FSC® 100% or 100% PEFC Origin timber, they will never be mixed on an individual order. The choice of timber is a logistical decision made at production, there is no difference in quality between the options. You will find the official FSC® logo or PEFC logo on the product, our delivery tickets, and our invoices depending on which timber was used.
